Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 gaming box: An External Graphics Card Kit
GIGABYTE has officially presented the Radeon RX 580 Gaming Box, a new solution that allows the use of graphics cards externally and which, as its name suggests, is accompanied by an RX 580 from AMD.
It is not the first time that GIGABYTE presents a product of this type, but it is the first version to have an AMD Radeon graphics card, a model that we can consider as a mid-high range.
The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 580 Gaming Box maintains the construction, design, and finishes at a similar level we are used to seeing in the GIGABYTE Gaming Box series. We have a box in which is located a Radeon RX 580 in its 8 GB version, a cooling system to keep temperatures under control and a power supply of 450 watts with an efficiency of 90 %, enough to power any graphics card current.
As regards the Radeon RX 580 graphics card, the key specifications have 2,304 shaders (Polaris 20 XT in 14 nm), featuring Up to 1,355 MHz on the GPU. Moreover, going into details, it has 144 units of texturing and 32 rasterized units with a 256-bit bus. For the graphics memory there is 8 GB of GDDR5 at 8 GHz, and power TDP of 180 watts. In this graphics card unit, the 1,355 MHz maximum speed can be reached thanks to the OC mode that can be activated by software. To have a good bandwidth, the Radeon RX 580 Gaming Box is connected to the PC through the Thunderbolt 3 port, which is capable of working at 40 Gbps. A PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot does not reach the level, but in general, it allows you to enjoy a good user experience.
Otherwise, it has different connectors on the back and includes a customizable RGB LED lighting system. Remember that the graphics card can be changed, so in the future, we could mount another more powerful model as long as it has the same format. GIGABYTE has not given details about the price.
