MediaTek introduced the 5G-modem Helio M70
Many chip designers have been working on 5G modems for quite some time now, and it’s logical that the Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek does not lag behind them either. So, within the framework of the Computex 2018 exhibition, the developer without any noise introduced the Helio M70 – its first 5G-modem.
Detailed characteristics of the Helio M70 are not disclosed yet, but it is already known that the maximum data download speed reaches 5 Gbit / s. It is reported that the 5G modem from MediaTek will be produced at the facilities of the contract manufacturer TSMC using a 7-nm process technology with EUV technology, and next year it will appear in the devices of Nokia and Huawei. In addition, negotiations are already underway with other manufacturers of mobile devices and network equipment.
It is also reported that MediaTek is working closely with Nokia, NTT Docomo, China Mobile, Huawei and other major telecommunications companies to improve the quality of the Helio M70 signal transmission, thanks to which the modem supports 5G NR technology and complies with 3GPP Release 15 specifications.
According to MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai, the company is actively working to create a better modem with support for 5G and artificial intelligence. If you remember, yesterday we reported about the upcoming processor from the MediaTek that will appear with brands such as Vivo and Huawei.
